Structured Liners

  • Toggle “podium” buildings into “structured liner” buildings to increase density
  • Garage liners extend the full height of the garage regardless of wrap levels.
  • Corridors can be aligned if units are placed around the garage and the units above are placed directly over them.
  • For more information on how to use structured liners, please check out the Knowledge Base article.

Reported issues & bug fixes

  • Fixed missing podium mass when orthographic was toggled.
  • Fixed missing lifts in wrap-podium buildings.
  • Fixed a few cases of non-interactive setbacks.

  • Fixed a crash when removing all points from a setback edge.
  • Fixed duplicate amenities in certain townhouse site layouts.
  • Fixed duplicate garage facades in podium buildings.
  • Fixed duplicate stairs after interacting with a site loaded from a file.

TestFit 2.15: Stability and Announcements

Moving roads 2

This update is unusual for TestFit Inc. It is feature light, bug fix heavy, and with some major announcements for 2021.

Major Announcement: TestFit for MEP

Our mission is to increase the quality and quantity of commodity buildings across our planet by using configurator technology. To build out the first phase of our plan, we built out IBC compliant floor plate generators for parking, commercial, and multifamily uses. The second phase, starting now, is to bring not only structural engineering but mechanical engineering prowess to the problem. The future of our technology is building optimization, and to truly optimize buildings, one must understand not just their architecture, but their engineering as well.

Today, we are excited to have found the perfect fit to help us solve this critical problem. Our first Director of MEP Engineering is BuroHappold alum Nat MacDonald. We met Nat at the BILT NA conference in 2019, and have been dreaming of this moment for a couple of years!

If you, or your firm, continually find that engineering coordination and design could be better than it is today, we are here to help solve this problem. Feel free to drop Nat an email (nat(a)testfit.io) with your thoughts or ideas!

Welcome Nat-05-1

Major Announcement: Director of Marketing

We have been very fortunate to get BIM Track alum Alexine Gordon-Stewart as our very first marketing director! She brings with her a passion for the AEC industry, but more importantly a passion for communication. This is going to be a huge force multiplier for our small team!

Welcome Alexine-05

Major Announcement: TestFit for Garden Apartments

Research and development for garden style apartments has begun. If you or your firm does this kind of building style, please indicate your interest by filling out the form on this page!

Major Announcement: TestFit for Envelopes

constraint engine

The next major release of TestFit will be to support more complicated envelopes, and to give our users the ability to design in section for the first time. If you are interested in this feature, specifically, please let us know here. This will be our next release.

Alfred School of Architecture: TestFit to Revit

TF to Revit

Over the past semester our good friends Gavin Crump Lecturer at the University of Sydney (The Aussie BIM Guru) and Roger Schroeder Adjunct Professor at SUNY Alfred School of Architecture worked with students to create a seamless transition from TestFit to Revit using our dynamo nodes. You can view the whole process via a youtube playlist here. Professor Schroeder has also created a very helpful webpage about his process here.

If you are a professor or a student and are interested in using TestFit for educational purposes, please reach out to Caroline Bauer (Caroline(a)testfit.io) for free licenses!
