This update is unusual for TestFit Inc. It is feature light, bug fix heavy, and with some major announcements for 2021.

Major Announcement: TestFit for MEP

Our mission is to increase the quality and quantity of commodity buildings across our planet by using configurator technology. To build out the first phase of our plan, we built out IBC compliant floor plate generators for parking, commercial, and multifamily uses. The second phase, starting now, is to bring not only structural engineering but mechanical engineering prowess to the problem. The future of our technology is building optimization, and to truly optimize buildings, one must understand not just their architecture, but their engineering as well.

Today, we are excited to have found the perfect fit to help us solve this critical problem. Our first Director of MEP Engineering is BuroHappold alum Nat MacDonald. We met Nat at the BILT NA conference in 2019, and have been dreaming of this moment for a couple of years!

Alfred School of Architecture: TestFit to Revit

TF to Revit

Over the past semester our good friends Gavin Crump Lecturer at the University of Sydney (The Aussie BIM Guru) and Roger Schroeder Adjunct Professor at SUNY Alfred School of Architecture worked with students to create a seamless transition from TestFit to Revit using our dynamo nodes.  Two Small Features for TF 2.15

  • Added an option to skip the available patches for users in restricted (normally enterprise) environments.
  • Improved the road drawing tools to be more stable, and to reject creating unsupported intersections.

 Reported Bugs and Stability Changes:

  • Fixed a few crashes for unusual corner unit common area lobby layouts.
  • Fixed a few crashes for unusual corner unit balcony layouts.
  • Fixed a crash due to custom dead end unit path widths.
  • Fixed incorrect unit texture scale in metric.
  • Fixed some unallocated areas where there was room for units.
  • Fixed some issues saving road networks to an rsd file.
  • Fixed a crash when placing parking in a nearly orthogonal site.
  • Fixed a crash when placing parking in very small sites.
  • Fixed missing parking stalls along the outer edge of some sites.
  • Fixed a crash when dragging cores on surface-parked sites.
  • Fixed a few cases of incorrect footprints on surface-parked sites.
  • Fixed some crashes due to complicated manual site layouts.
  • Fixed a crash dividing outer courtyards on large sites.
  • Background images modified outside TestFit will be reloaded when re-opened.
  • Moving a background image is now undo-able.

  • Added a new site type: Core-based buildings.

  • Added a new tool in the site panel to create site boundaries from parcels.
  • Added parapets around void spaces.
  • Added a merge levels parameter for multi-story low density spaces.
  • Added a toggle to change the entry edge for outside corner units.

  • With our continued commitment to urban planning, we have released a new tool set for block sizing: rectangle grips
  • If TestFit recognizes a rectangle, additional grips are available to the user
  • It also supports squares, a type of rectangle
